They've been married for almost thirty years; he was 40, she was 18.
The age difference did not seem to matter at the time – he was a charming and suave older man.
He had money, a house, an expensive German car.
He took her on nice vacations and fancy restaurants.
Her friends were jealous.

At first it was great.
Then good.
Then OK.

Then one day she wakes up next to an old man.

An old man with a gray beard and age spots.
An old man who wears white socks and an old man's hat.

Going out for dinner is replaced by going out for coffee.
Conversation is replaced by reading.
Love is replaced by companionship.

Living has been replaced by waiting.
